Are you a parent with a child who is 5 years old or under? Then the Festiv’ÉLÉ, organized by the borough of Lachine’s libraries, is for you!

April 6-14, this festival to awaken children to reading and writing will be in full swing at the Bibliothèque Saul-Bellow library as well as at the Bibliothèque de Saint-Pierre.

Living up to its slogan Si on lit tout-petit, on lit toute la vie (“If you read as a tiny tot, you’ll enjoy a lifetime of reading a lot”), the FestivÉLÉ offers families a wide range of activities, including the Ruche show (April 6 in the afternoon at Lachine’s two libraries), readings and games, many with a common theme: insects.

For children

The Insectes à trouver dans ton quartier (“Insects to Find in Your Neighbourhood”) activity invites you to find insects in your neighborhood in the form of a game called Cherche et trouve (“Find and Seek”). Books will be raffled off at the end of the festival. Write to the youth librarian for more information.

For parents

On April 13, at the Bibliothèque Saul-Bellow, a speech therapist from the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal will provide information on language development in young children (10:15 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.) and the Direction régionale de la santé publique will present the Lachine-LaSalle and Dorval results of the Québec survey on children’s development in kindergarten (12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.).
