Montréal's participatory budget: Propose your idea for the 3rd edition

Montréal is earmarking $45 million to carry out projects proposed and chosen by Montrealers. Propose an idea to us.

How does it work?

This democratic process allows Montrealers to decide how a portion of the municipal budget is used. You come up with ideas for municipal improvements or facilities, and then you decide which projects the city will build.

The third edition of the participatory budget takes place in several phases:

  1. From February 19 to March 25, 2024: the public is invited to submit ideas.
  2. Spring 2024 and Fall 2024: Proposals will be analyzed by the city and developed into feasible projects in collaboration with individuals representing organizations and with the public. A final list will be voted on after completion of the project feasibility studies.
  3. Winter 2025: Voting period. Winning projects will be completed as the $45 million budget permits.

What kinds of ideas can be proposed?

This year, the themes of the participatory budget are youth, equity and public safety. For example, your idea could help meet the needs of youth, ensure equitable access to municipal infrastructure, or improve safety in your neighbourhood.

How do you take part?

You have until March 25 to submit a project idea.
