Montréal’s Awards for the Promotion of the French Language
Do you know someone who has gone out of their way to promote the French language? Has your organization launched a French language initiative? Montréal’s Awards for the Promotion of the French Language recognize your actions to give French pride of place in our city.
Description
The city created these awards in 2022 as a yearly distinction. Their aim is to celebrate the efforts being made to promote French in all parts of Montréal and in all spheres of activity.

There are two categories of awards:

Prix « Provoquer la passion »
Reconnaît une initiative d’une Montréalaise ou d’un Montréalais pour la transmission de l’amour de la langue française, dans le cadre de ses fonctions ou son bénévolat.
Prix « Faire rayonner »
Souligne la contribution exceptionnelle d’une Montréalaise ou d’un Montréalais au rayonnement de la langue française au sein de la francophonie, à l’échelle nationale ou internationale.
Prix « S’investir pour l’avenir »
Salue les formes émergentes et l’engagement d’une Montréalaise ou d’un Montréalais de 35 ans ou moins à la promotion de la langue française au cœur de sa pratique ou dans sa communauté.
Prix « Œuvre ensemble »
Récompense l’effet mobilisateur d’une initiative ou de la mission principale d’un organisme visant à mettre en valeur la langue française.
Une plaque honorifique sera remise aux personnes et organisation lauréates, lors d’une cérémonie qui aura lieu le 30 octobre 2024 à l’Hôtel de ville.
Eligibility
Awards recognize initiatives carried out over the past two years.
Eligible achievements
The Personality Award goes to an individual who:
- Has made an exceptional contribution to promoting the French language in Montréal.
- Has led at least one innovative achievement that has positively impacted the use or the notoriety of French in Montréal.
Eligible candidates
Candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Be born in the Montréal agglomeration, meaning the 16 municipalities that make up the island of Montréal.
- Live or have lived in the agglomeration for at least two years.
- Carry out or have carried out professional activities in the agglomeration for at least two years.
You cannot nominate yourself. You must be nominated by someone else.
Eligible achievements
The People’s Choice Award goes to an organization that:
- Has made a major contribution to promoting the French language in Montréal.
- Has led a mobilizing initiative in the Montréal community involving the use or notoriety of the French language.
Eligible organizations
The organization (company, association or other organization) must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Be headquartered in Montréal.
- Work or do business in the Montréal agglomeration.
Ce prix souligne la contribution novatrice d’une Montréalaise ou d’un Montréalais de 35 ans ou moins à la mise en valeur de la langue française au sein de sa communauté.
Réalisations admissibles
Le prix « S’investir pour l’avenir » est remis à une personne qui a :
- contribué de manière novatrice à la valorisation du français sur le territoire montréalais;
- mené au moins une initiative qui a eu des retombées positives sur l’usage de la langue française dans son secteur ou sa communauté.
Personnes admissibles
La personne candidate doit répondre à au moins 1 des critères suivants :
- Être née sur le territoire de l’agglomération de Montréal et être âgée de 35 ans et moins;
- Résider ou avoir résidé sur ce même territoire durant au moins 2 ans;
- Exercer ou avoir exercé des activités professionnelles sur ce même territoire durant au moins 2 ans.
Ce prix récompense l’effet mobilisateur d’une initiative de rayonnement de la langue française menée par une organisation sur le territoire montréalais ou ayant mis en valeur la langue française dans sa mission principale.
Réalisations admissibles
Ce prix est remis à une organisation, dont l’initiative ou la mission a :
- contribué de manière importante à la valorisation de la langue française sur le territoire montréalais;
- exercé un leadership mobilisateur en matière d’usage ou de rayonnement de la langue française.
Organisations admissibles
Les organisations candidates (organisme, entreprise, association) doivent répondre à au moins 1 des critères suivants :
- Avoir son siège social à Montréal;
- Œuvrer, faire des affaires ou mener ses activités sur le territoire montréalais.
Jury
The jury is composed of people who have promoted the French language in their field of expertise.
The city selects jury members. Representation targets for equity and diversity are determined each time the jury is renewed. Jurors have a one-year, renewable term.
Members cannot be Montréal city employees.

The call for candidates for the Awards for the Promotion of the French Language is now closed.

Awards for the Promotion of the French Languages was received on the 29th of March 2023.
